Spices & Ingredients

A spice is a dried seed, fruit, root, bark, or vegetative substance primarily used for flavoring, coloring or preserving food. Sometimes a spice is used to hide other flavors or create certain aromas as well. Many spices even have antimicrobial properties. An ingredient, like a spice, is a substance that forms part of a mixture in cooking. Ingredients can be anything from meats, to fruits and vegetables, to herbs and spices, etc. In recipes specific ingredients are used to prepare a specific dishes.
